This unique yarn blend combines responsibly sourced virgin wool and organic cotton with recycled post–consumer fibre. This recycled fibre was recovered from unsellable clothing originally donated to Salvos Stores around Sydney by the public. The creation of this yarn was supported by a City of Sydney Innovation & Ideas Grant.

Cone yield

1kg / approx 2,500 metres

Fibre content

30% Recycled post-consumer wool
30% RWS wool (Uruguay)
20% Recycled post-consumer cotton
20% GOTS organic cotton (Türkiye)
+ traces of recycled linen, silk, viscose, nylon and acrylic

Usage

Unlike our Salvos 100g hanks, this yarn has not been plied and steam set for hand knitting or crochet. Instead, the ends are more loosely plied to improve drape and elasticity for machine knitting and weaving.

Care

Cold hand or machine wash (gentle/wool cycle ). The virgin wool in this yarn will bloom after first wash; meaning it will appear fuller and fuzzier.

Do not tumble dry.

Dry flat or block.

Steam a wrinkled item rather than ironing it directly.

Mechanically recycled fibres are short, staple-length fibres, and just like any short fibre may pill over time if exposed to regular friction. Pilling can be gently removed with a sweater comb or fabric shaver
