Although they already go above and beyond to upcycle their scrap fabric into new products– including modern patchwork tote bags and jersey scarves– we've focused on helping them recycle what remains into spun yarn.
Fortunately, Citizen Wolf's commitment to using high quality jerseys made from only natural fibre (i.e. fine merino wool and organic cotton) means their production scraps are ideal for mechanical fibre recovery.
Beyond that, the diversity of fabric colours allowed us to create five distinct yarn colourways by strategically sorting scraps based on their existing hue; no bleaching, dyeing or chemical colourants necessary.

The resulting yarn has a unique texture and touch; combining the dry, crisp handle of recycled cotton with the smooth and lofty feel of both recycled and virgin wool.
To learn more about how our recycling process works, check out our about page.
Hook ChoiceRecovered fibres are generally shorter and less elastic than virgin fibres, so to avoid a dense and rigid yarn we try not to twist the yarn plies too tightly as we spin them. |

WashingFabrics can be washed by hand, or in a washing machine on a delicate or handwash cycle, with cold water only. |
BloomingAnother characteristic of the wool content is that it will cause the yarn to bloom once washed. Blooming is when the yarn appears fuzzier and plumper after washing. |
